SOUNDERS: MLS harshly punishes Brian Mullan, the man who broke Steve Zakuni's leg

The wait is finally over.

No, I'm not talking about the NFL draft. I'm talking about the suspension dished out on Colorado Midfielder Brian Mullan after a nasty, makes-you-cringe slide tackle on the Sounders' Steve Zakuni that ended up breaking Zakuni's left leg.

The MLS slapped Mullan with a 10-game suspension and a $5,000 fine.
To Continue... The 10-game suspension matches longest in MLS history.

Mullan should consider himself lucky, as there was speculation that Mullan would be suspended as long as Zakuni was sidelined, which will likely be all season.

Mullan was automatically banned one game and issued a $250 fine for the red card offense, but the MLS Disciplinary Committee decided further punishment was necessary for a tackle that was deemed "reckless, egregious, and showed utter disregard for the safety of his opponent."
