SOUNDERS FC: Training from Orlando

With the season less than a month away, the Sounders were in Orlando at ESPN’s Wide World of Sport’s Complex for the second of two training matches. After losing 2-0 to FC Dallas on Monday, the Sounders were looking to right the ship against the Houston Dynamo.

To Continue...The first half looked bleak for the Sounders as Kent native Cam Weaver scored in the 11th minute to give the Dynamo a 1-0 halftime lead. Though the Sounders trailed at half, they actually controlled the ball for much of the time, however could not capitalize.

“I thought we created some opportunities. We have got to do a better job of finishing, that’s got to be better,” head coach Sigi Schmid said.

Houston added to their lead in the 57th minute with a Brian Ching header off of a corner ball from Francisco Navas Cobo.

Finally, the Sounders saw their luck change in the 62nd minute when O’Brian White attempted to shield the ball and was knocked to the ground and awarded a Penalty. Montero struck the back of the net with the kick giving the Sounders new life and cutting the lead to 2-1.

In the 70th minute, rookie Michael Tettah scored his first goal as a Sounder on a ball from Roger Levesque that tied the score and eventually secured the draw.

After the game Head Coach Sigi Schmid seemed pleased with the overall performance. ““It’s good that we came back from 2-0 down but I thought in the first half we actually played some pretty good soccer. I thought we created some good opportunities. If it wouldn’t be for bad luck we would have no luck. It was a situation where I was looking for the chances we could create for ourselves.”

With the draw the Sounders went to 2-2-2 in the preseason and square off against the University of Central Florida on Thursday.
