Another stellar outing by Jarrod Washburn pushed the Mariners to a 3-1 win over the Cleveland Indians. That win brings the series to 2-1 in Seattle’s favor.
Ken Griffey Jr. got on base in the fourth with a walk to then bring center fielder Franklin Gutierrez to the plate. Gutierrez sent a shot to the depths of right-center field to bring the score to 2-0 in the fourth inning. It was his 12th home run on the season.

In the following inning, Ronny Cedeno scored on a sacrifice fly by slugger Russell Branyan. Up until the bottom of the seventh inning the Indians were scoreless, but Jamey Carroll singled to shallow center field and Victor Martinez scored.
Washburn lowered his ERA to 2.87 as he only allowed one run in 6.2 innings. Sean White and David Aardsma then finished off the game to collect the team’s 48th win of the season.
Gutierrez’ home run was his second of the series, his first being in Friday’s win.
