_
Endy Chavez led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a home run to right then on a 2-1 count off Angels pitcher Jered Weaver, Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 400th home run as a Mariner, his second of the season in the 11-3 stomp of the Angels.

Griffey leads all active players with 613 career home runs.

In the seventh inning, the Mariners scored seven runs but no four were as impressive as Ichiro Suzuki's fourth grand slam of his career.

In his first game of 2009, Ichiro was 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored.

Seattle hadn't won a series against the Angels since 2003. The Mariners are now 7-2 on a five-game win streak.

Starter Jarrod Washburn pitched another quality start, throwing six innings striking out four and walking none.

Angels outfielder Torri Hunter homered for his second game off Washburn to take the lead, but it didn't last long.

More small ball in the fourth after Russell Branyan doubled to center, Jose Lopez sacrificed Branyan to third and Kenji Johjima scored him on a single to center.

Rob Johnson pinch-ran for Johjima due to a strained calf.

Johnson scored 2 of seven in the seventh on an RBI single scoring Branyan and Adrian Beltre.

Relievers Shawn Kelley and Mark Lowe combined for three scoreless innings.

Every player wore number 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier.
