MARINERS: Game Preview: Mariners (8-3) vs Tigers (5-5)

In the middle game of a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers, the Seattle Mariners are looking to improve on their American League leading 8-3 record after a 6-3 win last night against the 2006 American League pennant winning Detroit Tigers.

On the mound for the Mariners is LHP Erik Bedard (1-0; 2.03 ERA; 15 SO) while the Tigers are ready to fight under the wings of RHP Edwin Jackson (0-0; 3.38 ERA; 7 SO).

Jackson was acquired by the Tigers from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfielder, Matt Joyce during the offseason. In his last start, he allowed five hits and four earned runs over six innings of play against the offensive heavy Texas Rangers.

Meanwhile, Bedard was centered in trade talks that would have restocked the farm system, but he managed to remain on the roster despite the speculation. He has since proven himself a frontline starter with 15 strikeouts in only two games where he has also maintained a 2.03 ERA.

Kenji Johjima will remain out of the lineup with his recent 15-day stint on the disabled list due to a right hamstring injury, his first time off the roster in three seasons since being signed by the Mariners after a long and established career in Japan.
