SOUNDERS FC: International friendly opponent revealed: Manchester United

When the Sounders MLS franchise was created, the ownership said they wanted to go big in everything.

They haven’t disappointed.

Today, the Sounders revealed their 2011 international friendly opponent will be Manchester United, who will be coming to Quest field July 20th.

"Our fans deserve the best and we have provided a blockbuster match," majority owner Joe Roth said in a release from the team. "Manchester United is perhaps the most popular team on the planet and certainly one of the most successful."

Roth has been guaranteeing a friendly against a "top-five team in the world" since October.

Manchester United certainly backs up its high status, with 11 league titles and three European championships. Man U will play five games in its summer tour: at New England (July 13), at Seattle (July 20), at Chicago (July 23), vs. the MLS all-stars in Harrison, N.J. (July 27) and vs. FC Barcelona in Washington D.C. (July 30).

The 7:00 PM game is included in the Sounders 18-game season ticket package. Game tickets go on javascript:void(0)sale June 1.
