MARINERS: M's make first cuts of Spring Training

With minor league camp beginning tomorrow, the Mariners have made their first cuts of Spring Training.

Here’s the “casualties”…

- Left-handed pitcher Mauricio Robles, infielder Alex Liddi and outfielder Carlos Peguero were optioned to AAA Tacoma.

- Outfielder Johermyn Chavez was optioned to AA Jackson

- Right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit and left-handed pitcher James Paxton were re-assigned to the minor-league camp.

None of these players had a realistic chance of making the team; with maybe the closest being Alex Liddi, who hit 2 grand slams in the past week and also hit .385 during Spring Training.

At this point in Spring Training, major league teams start to focus on those who actually do have a chance to make the team, such as Michael Pineda, who is getting serious consideration on getting a spot in the major-league rotation.
