MARINERS: Key series for M's in 2011

By Matthew Carlson

Every year, the Mariners play a couple of meaningful/important series. Whether it's the opponent, location, or promotion, there are a couple "mark your calendar" dates throughput the year.

Mariners at Oakland, April 1-3:  Opening series of the season. The Mariners would love to avoid another 1-4 start.

To Continue...

Mariners vs. Cleveland, April 8-10:  The Mariners defend their home field against the lowly Indians in Safeco Field’s 2011 opener.

Mariners vs. New York (AL), May 27-29 & September 12-14:  It’s always special when the most iconic team in Major League Baseball comes to visit the Mariners.  In 2009 Ichiro belted a walk-off 2 run homer off Mariano Rivera, and last year King Felix dominated the Yankees in every way.  Also, Mariner fans will be needed to boo A-rod.

Mariners vs. Philadelphia, June 17-19:  The Phillies and their fabulous pitching staff visit Safeco Field for a 3 game series.  There is a pretty good chance that former Mariner Cliff Lee will be on the mound for the Phillies.  We should be sure to give him a standing ovation if he does pitch, as he pitched masterfully for us before being traded.  If only he was still a Mariner. Oh, and American League teams only play National League teams every few years, so make sure to maximize your opportunities with these..

Mariners vs. Florida, June 24-26: Another National League game. In a strange sequence of events, the Marlin’s stadium in Florida got booked for a concert, forcing them to play 3 “away” games at Safeco Field.  National League ballpark rules will apply (no DH, the pitcher bats).  Maybe Felix can belt a Grand Slam.

Mariners vs. Boston, August 12-14:  Well Bandwagon Red Sox fans, this is your opportunity to see your "favorite" team play! Don't try to trick us. We know you only come to Safeco for the opportunity to get some rally fries.

Mariners at Minnesota, September 20-22:  The M’s embark on their final road trip of the season, starting in spacious Target Field against the annually successful Twins.

Mariners vs. Oakland, September 26-28: Closing homestand. The M's always do a "run around the bases" thing for kids around this time. But you know as much as you love your kids, you would take that chance to run around the bases in a heartbeat. So let's go Mariners management, it's time to install that "all men above the age of 40 run the bases." Check it.
