MARINERS: The Kid is coming home, as a consultant

Written by Matthew Carlson

Some good news greeted Mariner Nation today; the club has hired all time great Ken Griffey Jr. as a special consultant to the franchise.

"He wants to tell the kids coming through our system what it means to be a Mariner and why it’s special to be a Mariner. And I can't think of anybody who can better deliver that message than Ken Griffey Jr." said team president Chuck Armstrong. "He's volunteered to become involved with our corporate business partners. He's volunteered to participate in any types of activities that seem like they would be good fits.”

In regards to the possible tensions between Griffey and the M’s, Armstrong stated "As far as I'm concerned, all that's behind us. I'm just happy to have him back and welcome him back home."

As a consultant, Griffey will essentially be giving advice to minor league players, public relations work, and working behind the scene.

Good to have you back Kid.
