SOUNDERS FC: Ljungberg trade update



The Sounders’ star midfielder Freddie Ljungberg has taken another step towards finding a new team. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet is reporting that Ljungberg has hired a new agent who has hinted at where the former MLS All-Star might be playing next year.

Gone is Claes Elefalk and in his place is Phil Smith of England. In an interview with Aftonbladet, Smith confirmed that Ljungberg is in contact with two teams at this point, one in Europe and another in the MLS.

While there are too many teams in Europe and your humble scribe is very unfamiliar with the Euro-soccer landscape, we can be much more certain about the MLS team.

In our last story on the Ljungberg subject we pointed out the Arsenal connection between Thierry Henry and Ljungberg. After Smith’s admission, we can be fairly certain that the MLS team in question is in fact the New York Red Bulls, unless another club will step up with the $1.3 million that would match the salary Ljungberg makes in Seattle.
