MARINERS: Erik Bedard not pitching in 2010

Mariners’ pitcher Erik Bedard has stated that he most likely won’t be pitching for the M’s this season, as he continues to feel discomfort in his shoulder. Bedard has been rehabbing his left shoulder ever since he had surgery last August, and after a number of prolonged start dates he has indicated his season is over before it even started.

An MRI was performed on Bedard’s shoulder last week, and has indicated that the results are indicative that he won’t pitch for the remainder of the season. His last outing for the AAA Tacoma Raniers on July 2 saw Bedard throwing 4 1/3 innings, only before experiencing said discomfort in his throwing shoulder.

Bedard signed an incentive-laden contract with the Mariners prior to the start of this season, and isn’t expected to have a dramatic impact on the M’s payroll for 2010.

The lefty was social and excited during Spring Training, all while ultimately being optimistic that he would have an impactful season after signing a one-year deal. Given the results of this year’s squad, it should be no surprise that Bedard is willing to call his season so soon.
