Pro Football Weekly has a feature on the top four "aging" fantasy veterans who could be major sleeper picks in 2009.
QB Matt Hasselbeck tops the list:
People are going to be down on Hasselbeck after he was either injured or terrible for most of ’08, but the guy is only a year removed from a monster campaign in which he threw for 3,966 yards and 28 TDs. If he can stay healthy, his tremendous group of targets — WRs T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Deion Branch and Nate Burleson and TE John Carlson — should make it easy for him to produce. To Continue...
Nate Burleson
Here's Burleson's fantasy scouting report from KFFL:
Pros: Burleson's recovery from torn knee ligaments suffered in Week 1 has gone extremely well; in May, he was reportedly running routes without any trouble. He was coming off a solid 50-catch, 694-yard, nine-TD campaign and posted five receptions, 60 yards and a score in his lone 2008 contest. Deion Branch (knee) has more health problems than Burleson does.
Cons: He might be 100 percent by the season opener, but Burleson depends on speed to be effective; the wheels aren't likely to have caught up yet. The new regime (head coach Jim Mora, OC Greg Knapp) has implemented a ground-oriented attack, so how valuable can Burleson be?
Fantasy tip: He has more upside than the unexciting Branch, but don't look to invest anything more than a late-round pick on Burleson. There's more uncertainty about his role this time around, not to mention his injury. Patient owners may be rewarded - eventual starter? - as the season wears on.
